Thanks to FEPS member Harry Myers' contacts in the film world a group of members were given an interesting insight into the world of film making on a visit to Pinewood Studios where the new Bond film Quantum of Solace is in production.
The group arrived at the new front entrance to Pinewood Studios wondering how much they would see of Daniel Craig during the making of the new Bond film. As it happened, although he was stated to be around, 007 did not appear. The day started with refreshments while being given a taste of the emerging film by watching rushes showing plenty of action and derring-do. The group was taken to the Model Room where they saw a photographic storyboard of the progression of the film from start to finish plus amazingly detailed models of the buildings and other structures used in the planning of camera, actor and actress positions etc prior to real shooting.
Wearing hard hats and "visible jackets" (see pic) the group then visited large working sets, being fullsize mock-ups actual buildings used for the film, for example, and Eco-Hotel in Bolivia (the hotel owners would rather the film makers blew up a mock-up than the real thing !). Incidentally, the group was given to understand that the biggest motion picture explosion ever made will be made during the shooting of this film.
After lunch the group was invited to see the actual film making (fully digital by the way). A model of the fuselage of the airliner used by 007 to escape was being rocked in all directions while the leading lady was sliding around on the floor. Their view, understandably, was on a monitor screen.
Many thanks to Harry and his contacts at Pinewood, Anne Bennett, Cloe, Katherine and Sara for an interesting insight into the world of film making.
