Travel with the Walkers to Kenya

family of elephants FEPS members Mike and Val Walker got the 2008 programme off to a flying start with a wonderful presentation of their safari to Kenya in 2007. Such trips enable Mick and Val to combine their passion for photography with a keen interest in the local wildlife. Kenya's Great Rift Valley certainly provided plenty of opportunities for some superb photographs. Val was able to capture on camera this lovely family of elephants making their daily walk to a nearby watering hole.

Mick and Val also saw other big cats such as lion and cheetah in the Masai Mara area as well as the animals they prey on including impala, zebra and wildebeest. However the famous crossing of the Mara river by the wildebeest herds to seek fresh pastures failed to take place during their stay.

They range in size from the two million greater flamingos which congregate on the soda lake at Lake Nakuru to much smaller birds such as the pied kingfisher. Some have astonishing colouring such as the lilac breasted roller, captured here on camera by Mick.

We all look forward to the Walkers' next trip and seeing more fabulous images of the local wildlife.
